An exciting program is developing in the Arts curriculum in the RCDSB – Instrumental Music for intermediate students!  Using the “Program Enhancement Grant”, the plan is to implement this program for all grade seven and eight students.  The program began as a pilot at Morison Public School in Deep River and Renfrew Collegiate Intermediate School in Renfrew for the 2010-11 year. In September 2011 it will run in all elementary schools.

General Lake Public School students were treated to an amazing line up of musicians and celebrities as part of a promise to take action locally and globally.
On Sept. 27, students from General Lake Public School headed to Toronto to attend the fifth annual We Day at the Air Canada Centre. Students were inspired by presentations and performances  by Marc and Craig Kielburger, Shawn Desmond, Danny Glover, Nelly Furtado, Mary Robinson, City and Colour, Rick Hansen, Kardinal, Patch Adams, Waneek Horn-Millor, Joe Jonas, Nina Dobrev, Neverest, Nikki Yanofsky, Spencer West, the cast of Degrassi, Michel Chikwanine, Robin Wiszowaty and Classified.
Participating in this awesome experience with teachers Mme Haddad and Ms. Legault were students Dominic Plamondon, Jada McInnis, Melora Twomey, Mathew Hare, Brianna Pommeroy, Sydney Robinson, Zoey Scott, Erin Stacey, Jeris Chalmers-Wein, Jade Clouthier, Katie Williams and Sarah McGarry.
The cost of their trip included a promise to take action both locally and globally.  As their first action they will be collecting for Hunger for Halloween. Instead of collecting candy, students will be asking for food donations for the local food bank. Watch for more information in the next few weeks. General Lake Public School is definitely making a change.
